This is a question based on the diffraction of light.
Diffraction of light:
The bending of light near the edges of an obstacle or slit and spreading into the region of the geometrical shadow is kown as the diffraction of light.
Example: When the sun is seen through a fine piece of cloth, a colored spectrum is observed.
The conditions that are needed to be fulfilled for getting the easily visible spectra are as follows,
The Source of light should be monochromatic.
The Source of light should be coherent.
The beam of rays should be parallel.
The dimensions of the slit should be of the order of a wavelength of the light.
The convex lens should be kept in a such way that the screen should be at the focal plane of the lens.
