HST is perhaps most focused on two primary values - the p-value and the effect size.
In your own words, what is a p-value? What does it mean when an analysis produces a p-value of .03?
In your own words, what is an effect size? Provide an example of a small effect size and one of a large effect size and explain why the effect size would matter in each case.

p-value:
p-value means probability value. It is the value that describes how likely it is that the data can be occurred by some random chance which states that the null hypothesis is true. The p-value lies between 0 and 1.
p-value of 0.03:
If an analysis produces a p-value of 0.03 then it means that the null hypothesis is strongly neglected. It indicates less than 3% probability the null hypothesis is correct. Hence, the null hypothesis is rejected and can look for an alternate hypothesis.
effect size:
Effective size is the number that indicates the relationship between the variables during an analysis. If the resultant value is large then it indicates the relationship between the two variables is stronger if the resultant value is small then it indicated the relationship between the two variables is weaker.
Fromula: effect size = μ 1 μ 2 S D
μ 1 Mean for Group 1
μ 2 Mean for Group 2
S D Standard deviation from either group
effect size example:
Small effect size:
Consider the heights of 8 and 9 years old girls in the country. The effect size would be some 0.2 indicating the difference is small.
Large effect size:
Consider the heights of 8 and 18 years old girls in the country. The effect size would be >0.8 indicating the difference is large.
