Given that the boiling point of the water is 212 F and 193.6 F at an altitude of 0 and 10,000 ft, respectively.
Let T reperesnts the temperature and x represents the altitude
Thus the linear equation is obtained as,
( T 212 ) = ( 193.6 212 ) ( 10 0 ) ( x 0 ) 10 ( T 212 ) = 18.4 x 10 T 2120 = 18.4 x 10 T = 18.4 x + 2120
Simplify further as,
T = 18.4 10 x + 2120 10 T = 1.84 x + 212
Hence, the relationship of the boiling point and the altitude is T = 1.84 x + 212
