Help with ${\mathrm{cos}}^{\frac{3}{2}}\left(x\right)$

The notional format should he $=\left(\mathrm{cos}\left(x\right){\right)}^{3/2}$, where x is either a cell reference or a number etc.. But:
The problem is that Excel (and Gnumeric and I expect other) uses logs to compute arbitrary powers, so if $\mathrm{cos}\left(x\right)<0
As as example of it failing when it could in principle return a float is $\left(-1{\right)}^{1/3}$

Not quite sure what your question is, but obviously ${\mathrm{cos}}^{\frac{3}{2}}\left(x\right)=\left(\mathrm{cos}\left(x\right){\right)}^{\frac{3}{2}}$ or alternatively ${\mathrm{cos}}^{\frac{3}{2}}\left(x\right)=\sqrt{{\mathrm{cos}}^{3}\left(x\right)}$
