To add/subtract complex numbers , collect the real parts together and the imaginary parts together.
If (a+bi) and (c+di) represent 2 complex numbers then
a+bi+c+di=(a+c)+(b+d)i
and a+bi(c+di)=(ac)+(bd)i
hence 48i13+23i=9+15i
