Substitute a+h and a for x in the formula for f(x) and simplify to find:
f(a+h)f(a)h=2a2+h
f(x)=x22x+3
Then: f(a+h)f(a)h
a2+2ah+h22a2h+3a2+2a3h
=2a2+h
So:
limh0f(a+h)f(a)h=limh0=(2a2+h)=2a2
This is the derivative of f(x) at x=a
