By using units in measurement we specify the amount of the thing. If we do not use units then we can not understand how much the amount stands.
If I say go to the market and buy 5 oil. Then what can you do? You cannot buy 5 oil. But you can buy 5 litres of oil.
So, here the amount is 5 litres, where the litre is the unit. Hence units are so important in measurement.
