A fraction is a number that names part of a whole or part of a group. The denominator represents the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into. A ratio is a comparison of two quantities.
Example: in a group of five students in which there are 4 boys and 1 girl, the fraction of the group that is female is
1/5. The fraction of the group that is male is 4/5 . The bottom number will constantly remain five because the entire collective contains five pupils.
the ratio of girls to boys is 1/4 and the ratio of boys to girls is 4/1. The ratio of girls to students is 1/5, and the ratio of boys to students is 4/5.
