Mass of wood = 0.48 kg
It floats on water. So ? wood Apparent mass in alcohol= 0.035 kg
Loss in mass=0.480.035=0.445 kg = mass of alcoholdisplaced
Volume of alcohol displaced =0.445/790=5.63×104m3= Volume of wood
Density of wood = Its mass / volume = 0.48/5.63×104=853 kg m-3
Specific gravity of wood = Density of wood / Density of water
= 853 /1000
= 0.853
