go to the 5th edition of the book
then go to chapter 14
then go to problem number 30
the answers is there
different edition, but same problem
2. Given,
Mass of ice cube (m) = 54.0 kg
Velocity of ice cube (v) = 6.4 m/s
Temperature of ice cube (T) = 0oC
Latent heat of fusion (L) = 3.33×105 J/kg
We know that, KE=1/2mv2=1(54kg)(6.4m/s)2
2 = 1105.92 J
Since, KE= Q andQ = mL
According to question 50 percent of energy is absorbed byice.
Then, Q=m ice melt L2 or, mice melt=Q
2L
=kg
=0.00166 kg
=1.7 g
Therefore, the amount of ice melt was 1.7 g (ml).
