Consider the basis 𝟚S={u1,u2} f or  R2 where u1=(1,1),u2=(1,1);w=(1,0)
In order to find the coordinate vector of w relative to the basis S we must find scalars a and b such that av1+bv2=w
Since av1+bv2=a(1,1)+b(1,1)=(a,a)+(b,b)=(a+b,a+b) and w=(1,0) We must identify the scalars a and b that (a+b,a+b)=(1,0) it brings up the linear system
a+b=1
a+b=0
a+b=1 and a+b=0 gives us that a+ba+b=1+0 which gives us that 2b=1 and therefore b=12
a+b=0 gives us that a=b and hence a=12
Hence (w)S=(12,12)
