There are two ways of solving this problem.
One is by dividing the number of stamps by the number of stamps each page can hold which will give us the number of pages required.
314 42 = 157 21 = 7.48
Since the number is between 7 and 8, Kyle has estimated correctly.
Two is by multiplying the number of stamps each page can hold by the estimated number of pages to see if the total number of stamps is equal to or less than the result. This is simpler.
42 × 8 = 336
To check if Kyle can manage with 7 pages, we calculate:
42 × 7 = 294
Since the total number of stamps is between these two numbers, Kyle has estimated correctly.
