You visit a friend who lives in the suburbs of Chicago. You decide to take a commuter train into the city. Your friend says that a train stops at the station every 30 minutes. Without any more information, you logically apply the uniform probability distribution and determine that you will wait between 0 and 30 minutes for a train with a probability of 1.00. You arrive at the train station and start timing your wait time. A train arrives 35 minutes later. a. Given your friend’s information, what was the probability that a train arrives in 35 minutes or more? b. Given your friend’s information, what conclusion can you make about your friend’s information?

Time is a continuous variable so it is a case of continuous uniform distribution.
The Uniform Distribution, also known as the Rectangular Distribution, is a type of Continuous Probability Distribution.
It has a Continuous Random Variable X,restricted to a finite interval [a,b] and it’s probability function f(x) has a constant density over this interval.
The Uniform probability distribution function is defined as-
f ( x ) = 1 ( b a ) , a x b
0, otherwise
a=0, b= 30min.
a.) According to friend's information train should arrive in 30 min but actually the train arrived in 35 min. And the person assumed the probability of arriving the train in 0 to 30 min. to be 1 according to his/ her friend.
So the probability that the train arrives in 35 minutes or more is P ( X 35 ) = 0
According to the friend's information.
As according to friend train arrives at station in every 30 minutes then probability of arriving in 35 minutes or more is completely zero.
b.) According to me friend' s information is wrong because train is not arriving in every 30 minutes as the person waited for 35 minutes for tge train to arrive at station.
