The distance between two points ( x 1 , y 1 , z 1 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 , z 2 ) in 3-space is given by the following formula
d = ( x 2 - x 1 ) 2 + ( y 2 - y 1 ) 2 + ( z 2 - z 1 ) 2
In the case of (-2,0,1) and (0,4,-2), the distance between them is
d = ( 0 - - 2 ) 2 + ( 4 - 0 ) 2 + ( - 2 - 4 ) 2 = 4 + 16 + 36 = 56 = 2 14
