Newton's third law of motion states that if one body exerts a force on a second body, a force equivalent in magnitude and directed in the opposite direction to that of the first body is simultaneously exerted by the second body.. Example, when you jump, your legs apply a force to the ground, and the ground applies and equal and opposite reaction force that propels you into the air.
