(a)
Calculate the mass of the suitcase when it is projected upward with some acceleration.
The expression of the force when an object is projected upward with some acceleration is
F = m ( a + g )
Rearrange the above expression in terms of the mass.
m = F ( a + g )
Substitute 145N for F , 0.77 m / s 2 for a ,and 9.8 m / s 2 or g in the above expression of the mass of an object.
m = 145 N 0.77 m / s 2 + 9.8 m / s 2 = 13.71 k g
The mass of the system is calculated from the Newton second law of the force equation.
Calculate the weight of suitcase.
The expression of the weight of an object is equal to,
W = m g
Substitute 13.71 k g for m and 9.8 m / s 2 for g n the above expression of the weight of an object.
w = ( 13.71 k g ) ( 9.8 m / s 2 )
= 134.358 N
The weight of suitcase is 134N
The weight of suitcase is calculated with the help of the acceleration due to the gravity.
