In essence, kinetic (or dynamic) friction has a higher coefficient of friction than static (or static) friction.
If you've tried to push a sledge (sled) on snow, you've undoubtedly already had this experience. Once it starts moving, there is frequently more resistance at first. Unsurprisingly, waxed wood and dry snow have a greater coefficient of static friction (0.14) than kinetic friction (0.004)
Getting my teenage kid out of bed in the morning is a different analogy. He is really difficult to move, but once he gets out of bed, it is a little bit simpler to keep him going.
