initial speed of the vehicle = 20   m s 1
The final velocity of the car = 0
Time taken by the car to stop = 10 s
We can create the first equation of motion using, v=u+at
So,
0=20+a×10
a=-2ms-2
Thus, retardation is 2 ms-2.
Retarding force = mass × retarding acceleration
= 2400 kg × 2   m s 2
= 4800   k g   m s 2
= 4800 N
