The midpoint of a segment with endpoints as ( x 1 , y 1 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 ) is
( x 1 + x 2 2 , y 1 + y 2 2 )
Here we have been given one endpoint as A ( 2 , 7 ) and let the other endpoint be B ( x , y ) . As their midpoint is M ( 1 , 6 ) , we must have
x + 2 2 = 1 i.e. x + 2 = 2 or x = 0 and
y + 7 2 = 6 i.e. y + 7 = 12 or y = 5
Hence, other endpoint is ( 0 , 5 )
