Voltmeter
A voltmeter is a tool or equipment used to gauge the voltage present in a circuit. To measure the circuit's voltage, a voltmeter is connected in parallel with the circuit. We are aware that in a parallel connection, all of the branches have the same potential drop. So, the device whose voltage needs to be measured is connected in parallel with the voltmeter. The voltmeter is connected in parallel with the resistance in this image in order to measure the potential drop across it. The voltage drop across the voltmeter and the potential drop across the resistor will be equal in parallel combination since the potential drop is the same. Diagram

Ammeter
A instrument or equipment known as an ammeter is used to gauge the amount of current flowing through a circuit. To gauge the circuit's current, an ammeter is connected in series with it. In a series combination, we know that the current flow will remain constant, but in a parallel combination, the current is split into branches. Therefore, the device whose current needs to be measured and the ammeter are connected in series. To measure the current flowing through the bulb, an ammeter is linked in series with it in this illustration. The current flowing through the ammeter and the bulb will be the same because the current flow is the same in a series combination. Diagram

In order to measure a circuit's voltage and current, a voltmeter and an ammeter are connected in parallel and series, respectively.
