Hence you reduce the relation to:

If you were to expand this for a certain n you'd get:
a n = 2 n 1 + 3 ( 2 n 2 + 3 ( 2 n 3 + ) )
If we distribute the factor 3 we get:
a n = 2 n 1 + 3 2 n 2 + 3 2 2 n 3 +
Or in other words:
a n = k = 1 n 3 n k 2 k 1
Step 2
Which we can simplify:
a n = 3 n 2 k = 1 n 3 k 2 k = 3 n 2 k = 1 n ( 2 3 ) k
And now we can get rid of the sum because it's a geometric series, and simplify:
