Distance is known most often as a continuous variable as it can take up and ${\displaystyle \mathbb{R}}$ number.
for example, you can throw a ball 25.784m
something like the amount of people hit a home run in a game would be discrete as that value can only be a ${\displaystyle \mathbb{N}}$ number as you can not have 1.3 people hit a home run.
