then why does y=2x2yy shouldn't y=ddxy=2x2y
I am trying to understand ODE's, so maybe a simple question requiring a simple response. Where is the extra y' coming from on 2yy'

I believe y is to be understood as a function of x; thus by the chain rule
(y2)=dd(y2)dyddydx=2yddydx=2yy;tag1
therefore, y=2x(y2)=2x2yy.tag2
