The instantaneous rate of change is the value of f'(2).
f ( x ) = x 3 + x 2 f ( x ) = 3 x 2 + 2 x
and f ( 2 ) = 3 ( 2 ) 2 + 2 ( 2 ) = 16 is the instantaneous rate of change
