for this one you want to use the quadratic formula
b ± b 2 4 a c 2 a where a=2, b=-3, and c=-6
( 3 ) ± ( 3 ) 2 4 ( 2 ) ( 6 ) 2 ( 2 ) = 3 ± 9 + 48 4 = 3 ± 9 + 48 4 = 3 ± 7.549834 4
now just break it up in to 3 + 7.549834 4   a n d   3 7.549834 4
for = 10.549834 4 = 2.6374585
for = 4.549834 4 = 1.1374585
so your answers would be y = 2.6374585 and y =-1.1375585

First, factor and remove the 2.
2 ( y 2 3 y / 2 3 ) = 0
y 2 ( 3 / 2 ) y 3 = 0
By the quadratic formula:
y = 3 / 4 ± ( 1 / 2 ) ( 9 / 4 + 12 ) 1 / 2 .
y = ( 3 ± 57 ) / 4.
y = ( ( 3 + 57 ) / 4 , ( 3 57 ) / 4 )
