Two factory plants are making TV panels. Yesterday, Plant A produced 7000 fewer panels than Plant B did. Two percent of the panels from Plant A and 5% of the panels from Plant B were defective. How many panels did Plant B produce, if the two plants together produced 1260 defective panels?

Let x be the number of panels produced by plant B
Let y be the number of panels produced by plant A
We know that plant A produced 7000 fewer panels than plant B, so
y=x7000
x+y=7000
Total defective panels are 1260, so
0.02x+0.05=1260
2x+5y=126000
System Ax=b:
(2511)(xy)=(1260007000)
Augmented matrix is:
(25126000117000)
R2R2+12×R1
=(2512600007256000)
R227×R2
=(201260000116000)
R1R15×R2
=(20460000116000)
R112×R1
(10230000116000)
Thus, the solution is:
(xy)=(2300016000)
And we have x=23000
