$\frac{3t+5}{8}=-5$

multiply both sides by 8

$\frac{3t+5}{8}\cdot 8=-5\cdot 8$

$3t+5=-40$

Subtract 5 on

$3t+5-5=-40-5$

$3t=-45$

Divide each side by 3

$\frac{3t}{3}=\frac{-45}{3}$

$t=-15$
