If you have a function - f ( x ) = a x 2 + b x + c
and have a complex number - α .
If you substitute the value of α into f ( x ) and got the answer 'zero', then α is said to be the solution / root of the quadratic equation.
An equation with a quadratic term has two roots .
Example :
Let a quadratic equation be - f ( x ) = x 2 - 8 x + 15
The roots of it will be 3 and 5 .
as f ( 3 ) = 3 2 - 8 3 + 15 = 9 - 24 + 15 = 0 and
f ( 5 ) = 5 2 - 8 5 + 15 = 25 - 40 + 15 = 0
