Given that
The width of a bookshelf must be no greater than 6 1/2 feet.
And a bookshelf that is 77 inches wide.
Since i ft = 12 inches
So 6.5  feet  = 6.5 × 12 = 78  inches
So 78 inches > 77 inches
So the difference is 1 inch.
