In the field of psychology, various theorists have tried to explain the process of development. Ecological system theory by Bronfenbrenner also attempts to explain the development process by taking into consideration the environment around.
The ecological system theory claims that five types of the environment play a role in the development of the child. These systems have been arranged serially depending upon the intensity of their impact on child development. These systems are:
Microsystem: this is the immediate family of the child, in which they grow, where are groomed. This environment plays the most important role in development. This system also consists of all the factors in our environment which are directly associated with us, like the parents, family, friends, and teachers. Thi system plays a role in shaping the values, the behavior of an individual.
Mesosystem: this system is formed by the interconnection developed between the various factors of the microsystem. For instance, the relation between the parents and the friends will play a role in child development.
Exosystem: this system consists of those stimuli which are not directly connected with the child, but have an indirect impact on them. for instance, the friend’s family, parent’s office situations, and other such factors.
Macrosystem: this system consists of the larger environment around, for instance the social structure, the regional impact, and the geographical condition.
