Question
Summarizing quantitative data asked 2020-12-25
Which kind of descriptive statistics can be included to summarize the quantitative data? if the distribution is skewed

## Answers (1) 2020-12-26
Step1
Solution:
Descriptive statistics are used for summarizing and organizing data to understand data easily.
Step 2
There are two categories of descriptive statistics used for quantitative data that are given as follows:
- Measures of central tendency: It includes Mean, Median.
- Measures of Dispersion: It includes Standard deviation, Mean deviation, Variance, Range, Percentile, Quartiles and Interquartile range.
If the distribution of data is skewed, it is better to use median from central tendency measures and interquartile range from dispersion measures. As they both are measured using middle 50% of the data, they are resistant to extreme observations.

Which statement best characterizes the definitions of categorical and quantitative data?
Quantitative data consist of numbers, whereas categorical data consist of names and labels that are not numeric.
Quantitative data consist of numbers representing measurements or counts, whereas categorical data consist of names or labels.
Quantitative data consist of values that can be arranged in order, whereas categorical data consist of values that cannot be arranged in order.
Quantitative data have an uncountable number of possible values, whereas categorical data have a countable number of possible values. asked 2021-01-31
Forecasting
Forecasting is important relative to capacity requirements planning.
What are some of the merits of using judgment methods (i.e., qualitative data) in contrast to quantitative forecasting methods.
Which methods are considered to be superior or more accurate, and in what forecast situations would require judgment methods?

The manager at Publix recently received information that customer satisfaction dropped at noon due to overcrowding in the checkout aisle. As a result, the manager went to the main floor to record the number of customers waiting in aisles 1-10 at noon.
Which of the following choices would be an accurate description of the way the "number of customers" is used in this data set?
a. individuals for the data set
b. continuous qualitative variable for this data set
c. discrete qualitative variable for this data set
d. qualitative variable for this set
e. continuous quantitative variable for this data set
f. discrete quantitative variable for this data set asked 2020-12-24
True or False
1.The goal of descriptive statistics is to simplify, summarize, and organize data.
2.A summary value, usually numerical, that describes a sample is called a parameter.
3.A researcher records the average age for a group of 25 preschool children selected to participate in a research study. The average age is an example of a statistic.
4.The median is the most commonly used measure of central tendency.
5.The mode is the best way to measure central tendency for data from a nominal scale of measurement.
6.A distribution of scores and a mean of 55 and a standard deviation of 4. The variance for this distribution is 16.
7.In a distribution with a mean of M = 36 and a standard deviation of SD = 8, a score of 40 would be considered an extreme value.
8.In a distribution with a mean of M = 76 and a standard deviation of SD = 7, a score of 91 would be considered an extreme value.
9.A negative correlation means that as the X values decrease, the Y values also tend to decrease.
10.The goal of a hypothesis test is to demonstrate that the patterns observed in the sample data represent real patterns in the population and are not simply due to chance or sampling error. asked 2020-12-14
