There are two categories of descriptive statistics used for quantitative data that are given as follows:
- Measures of central tendency: It includes Mean, Median.
- Measures of Dispersion: It includes Standard deviation, Mean deviation, Variance, Range, Percentile, Quartiles and Interquartile range.
If the distribution of data is skewed, it is better to use median from central tendency measures and interquartile range from dispersion measures. As they both are measured using middle 50% of the data, they are resistant to extreme observations.
