Step 1
We lurch forward in bus that suddenly slows , this is because of inertia of motion . Inertia of body resist any change in motion . Body wants to stay in state of rest or motion , unless an external force causes change .
So , when bus is moving ,our body with bus is also in state of motion , but when bus suddenly slows down, inertia of our body resist change in its state of forward motion and hence we lurch forward .
Step 2
When the bus picks up speed , we lurch backward due to inertia of rest . When the bus is at rest , our body with bus is also at rest , so when bus speeds up , inertia of our body resist change in its state of rest and hence we lurch backward .
Similarly , when the bus is moving with some constant speed , suddenly picks up the speed , then the inertia of our body resists the change in state motion or increased speed , hence we lurch backward .
Step 3
This law of inertia also known as Newton's first law of motion .
According to Newton's first law of motion, a body continues to be in state of rest or uniform motion along a straight line unless it is acted upon by some external force to change the state .
