A stratified random sample is defined when the entire sample population is adequately divided among the sub groups .
For example-
Let us take random samples of around 20000 citizens that can be selected for research. These 20000 citizens can be divided into strata according to age,i.e, groups of 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and above. Each stratum will have distinct members and number of members.
Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling is a part of stratified random sampling.
In this approach, each stratum sample size is directly proportional to the population size of the entire population of strata. That means each strata sample has the same sampling fraction.
For example-
Stratum A B C D
Population size 6000     8000     10000
Sampling fraction 1 2     1 2     1 2
sampling size 3000     4000     5000
