You can differentiate a function, not an equality.
If you want differentiate a 2-variables function ( x , y ) f ( x , y ) you write
d f = f x d x + f y d y
If f ( x , y ) = 5 x 3 - 4 x y - 2 y 2 you have
f x = 15 x 2 - 4 y and f y = - 4 x - 4 y
therefore, you finally have
d f = ( 15 x 2 - 4 y ) d x - 4 ( x + y ) d y
