The distance is 14. You can see it on the plan: the two points are at the same height, both 7 units far from the origin. Otherwise, using the formula:
d ( x , y ) = ( x 1 - y 1 ) 2 + ( x 2 - y 2 ) 2 . In your case, x 1 = x 2 = y : 2 = 7 , and
y 1 = - 7 . Thus, you have
d ( x , y ) = ( 7 + 7 ) 2 + ( 7 - 7 ) 2 = 14 2 = 14
