Essentially, this comes down to working out ( - 1 ) n for #n=1,2,3,4,5.
( - 1 ) n = - 1 if n is any odd value.
( - 1 ) n = + 1 if n is any even value.
So, the terms will be
a 1 = 1 + ( - 1 ) = 0
a 2 = 1 + ( + 1 ) = 2 , and continuing
The sequence becomes 0, 2, 0, 2, 0
