In an election between two candidates the candidate who got 57% of votes won by a majority of 420 votes. Find the total number of votes.
Let total number votes = x
Total votes winning candidate got = 57 % of x.
= 57 x 100
Total votes loosing candidate got = ( 100 57 ) % of x
= 43 % of x.
= 43 x 100
Step 2
Given difference of votes = 420
57 x 100 43 x 100 = 420
14 x 100 = 420 x = 3000
Total votes are 3000.
