Continuous data are not restricted to defined separate values, but can occupy any value over a continuous range, for example decimal, rational or real numbers.

The pH of water typically takes on values from 0 to 14.
Moreover, the pH can take on decimal values (such as 7.5) and thus the random variable is continuous.
