sum of n terms of an A.S. = S n = ( n 2 ) [ 2 a + ( n - 1 ) d ]
a = 174 , n = 35 , d = 168 - 174 = 162 - 168 = - 6
Substituting for a, d, n in the formula,
S 35 = ( 35 2 ) [ ( 2 174 ) + ( 35 - 1 ) ( - 6 ) ]
S 35 = ( 35 2 ) [ 348 - 204 ] = ( 35 2 ) 144 = 2520
