If all the 76 coins were dimes, we would have $7.60 i.e. we have$12.40−$7.60=$4.80 or 480 cents extra
Each quarter would have 25−10=15 cents more
but we have 480 cents more
so we have $\frac{480}{15}=32$ quarters
and 76−32=44 dimes.
Check - 44 dimes is 440 cents or $4.40 and 32 quarters are $32×25=800$ cents or$8.00. Hence total \$12.40
