Solution:-

Given that the larger number is x and the smaller number is y .

Also given that the sum of the two numbers is 88.

Therefore $$\Rightarrow x+y=88$$

The difference of the two numbers is 48.

Therefore $$x-y=48$$

Now adding equations

$$x+y=88\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}x-y=48\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}2x=136\Rightarrow x=68$$

Therefore the larger number is 68

Putting the value of x in equations we get,

$$68+y=88\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}y=20$$

Therefore the smaller number is 20
