Justification:
The claim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of the pain medication. The hypotheses for the test are,
Null hypothesis:
H0 : The severity of the pain before and after the medication is the same. Alternative hypothesis:
H1 : The severity of the pain after medication is less than before the medication.

As a businessperson, it is hard to share your results if your hypothesis testing does not reach a certain significance level. Make an argument why it is both good and bad to have to include this as part of your research results. Besides hypothesis testing, are there alternative ways to validate the research findings in a business environment?

In statistics, why do you reject the null hypothesis when the p-value is less than the alpha value (the level of significance)
This is a question that I've always wondered in statistics, but never had the guts to ask the professor. The professor would say that if the p-value is less than or equal to the level of significance (denoted by alpha) we reject the null hypothesis because the test statistic falls in the rejection region. When I first learned this, I did not understand why were comparing the p values to the alpha values. After all, the alpha values were brought in arbitrarily. What is the reason for comparing them to the alpha values and where do the alpha values of 0.05 and 0.10 come from? Why does the statement p value α allow you to reject H 0 ?

A researcher suspects that the mean birth weights of babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery is less than 3000 grams. The researcher states the hypotheses as H:x = 3000 grams H, x < 3000 grams.
These hypotheses are incorrect. What are the appropriate hypotheses for performing this significance test?
H 0 : x ¯ > 3000  grams;  H a : x ¯ < 3000  grams, where  x ¯ = the mean birth weights of the sample of babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery.
H 0 : x ¯ < 3000  grams;  H a : x ¯ = 3000  grams, where  x ¯ = the mean birth weights of the sample of babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery.
H 0 : μ = 3000  grams;  H a : μ 3000  grams, where  μ = the true mean birth weights of all babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery.
H 0 : μ = 3000  grams;  H a : μ < 3000  grams, where  μ = the true mean birth weights of all babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery.
H 0 : x ¯ = 3000  grams;  H a : x ¯ 3000  grams, where  x ¯ = the mean birth weights of the sample of babies whose mothers did not see a doctor before delivery.

Does anyone know what the properties of t-values are?
As I know it's just the ration
t = x ¯ μ s / n
which follows a t-distribution.
Used in mean-comparison tests and as a consequence also to check the significance of single independent variables in regression analysis. To generalize, t-values are used for hypothesis testing. Am I right with these properties?
Thanks!
