According to the question, we get
x + 3 x = 24
4 x = 24
x = 24 4
x = 6
If the fisherman caught 6 black fish, he would say that he caught 18 6 3
If he caught 18 black fish, then he would say that he caught just 6 18 ÷ 3
If you wanted to check your answer, when you add 6 black fish and 18 black fish, the total is 24 fish. But since we are not asked about black fish, we don't have to mention the black ones.
