A palindrome number is a number that is inverted, but the number remains the same. A four-digit palindrome number is 6226. Suppose, you subtract another four-digit palindrome number from such a four-digit palindrome. Subtraction is also a four-digit palindrome number. For how many four-digit palindrome numbers can that happen?

Let's find them all first, then.
1001
1111
1221
1331
1441
1551
1661
1771
1881
1991
The first and last ones are incremented by one as it continues to repeat.

There were ten numbers there at this time. Next,
1111
2222
3333
4444
5555
6666
7777
8888
9999
For both the first and last number, we have 9 options.

There are 90 four-digit palindromes as a result.

We will not include 0000 in our calculation because, in my opinion, you do not want that.

Now it's time to subtract.

Each of them with a 1 in the front has a zero.

There is at least one functional palindrome in each of them that starts with the number 2:
2002  1001 = 1001
2112  1111 = 1001
2222  1221 = 1001
etc...
The answer is 80 because every one of them has at least 1, with the exception of the 10 numbers with 1 in front. Every one of them that has 3 in front has at least 2 palindromes that work, every one that has 4 in front has at least 2 palindromes that work, etc.
90  10 = 80, so there's your answer.

Step 1
a palindrome with four digits equals 1001 a + 110 b, where 1  a  9 and 0  b  9. When comparing two palindromes, the difference is 1001 ( a  a  ) + 110 ( b  b  ).
Step 2
This is itself a palindrome if a > a  (Alternatively, it will only be three digits or negative.), and b  b  (the first and last digits are different if not).
