Let x= number of reams of yellow and
y= number of reams of white.
Then x + y = 100 ...(1)
and 4x + 6.5y = 455 .... (2)
Subtractiong x from both sides of (1), we get, y = 100 - x ... (3)
Substitute this in (2),
4x + 6.5 (100-x) = 455
4x +650 - 6.5x = 455
Combining like terms,
-2.5x + 650 = 455
Subtracting 650 from both sides,
-2.5 x = -195
Dividing both sides by -2.5,
x = 78
Substitute this in (3),
y = 100 - 78 = 22
So number of yellow reams (x) = 78 and
number of white reams (y) = 22
