Equations are easier to solve where there are no decimals or fractions so multiply both sides by 10 first to eliminate the decimals, and then solve for x:
2x−7=0.5x+0.5
10(2x−7)=10(0.5x+0.5)
20x−70=5x+5
15x−70=5
15x=75
x=5
