A line passes through the points ( -5,-6) and(3,-1). Another line has a gradient of value 3 and passes through the point( 8,-6) You are required to find the Coordinates of the point ofintersection of the two lines. 1. What is the x coordinate of the point of intersection? Give answer as a number only correct to at least 3 decimal places. 2. What is the y coordinate of the point of intersection? Give answer as a number only correct to at least 3 decimal places.

the slope of the line passing through thepoints ( -5,-6) and (3,-1) is
1 ( 6 ) 3 ( 5 )
slope is 5/8
the line passing through the points is
y = (5/8)x - 23/8
the line passing through the point (8, -6) with a slope of 3 is
y= 3x -30
now we set the two lines equal to each other
(5/8)x - 23/8 =3x -30
217/8 = (19/8)x
x = 217/19 = 11.421
now we plug in 217/19 back into either equation of the line to findy
y= 3(217/19) -30
y= 81/19 = 4.263
the point of intersection is
(11.421,4.263)
