d=rt where d is the distance, r is the rate (the speed), and tt is the time. Dividing both sides by r then gives \(\displaystyle{t}={\frac{{{d}}}{{{r}}}}\) If the impulse must travel a distance of d=4.6 m at a rate of r=75 m/s, then the time it will take is \(\displaystyle{t}={\frac{{{4.6}}}{{{75}}}}\approx{0.061}\) seconds

The top string of a guitar has a fundamental frequency of 33O Hz when it is allowed to vibrate as a whole, along all its 64.0-cm length from the neck to the bridge. A fret is provided for limiting vibration to just the lower two thirds of the string, If the string is pressed down at this fret and plucked, what is the new fundamental frequency? The guitarist can play a "natural harmonic" by gently touching the string at the location of this fret and plucking the string at about one sixth of the way along its length from the bridge. What frequency will be heard then?

Nerve cells are long, thin cylinders along which electric disturbances (nerve impulses) travel. The cell membrane if a typical nerve cell consists of an inner and outer wall separated by a distance of \(\displaystyle{0.10}\mu{m}\). The electric field within the cell membrane is \(\displaystyle{7.0}\cdot{10}^{{{5}}}\) N/C. Approximating the cell membrane as a parallel plate capacitor, determine the magnitude of the charge density on the inner and outer cell walls.

Look Out! A snowball rolls off a barn roof that slopes downward at an angle of 40 degrees . The edge of the roof is 14.0 m above the ground, and the snowball has a speed of 7.00 m/s as it rolls off the roof. Ignore air resistance.
A man 1.9 m tall is standing 4.0 m from the edge of the barn. Will he be hit by the snowball?
