Write the equation in the slope-intercept form y=mx+b ; Slope -1/5; through (4,-6)
In the equation y=mx+b, m is your slope and b is your y-intercept (where your equation crosses the y-axis)
We will need to use the formula (point-slope) y-y1 = m(x-x1)
We know that it has to pass through the point (4, -6) where 4=x1 and -6=y1 and that our slope or m = -1/5
So we plug in those values to the point slope formula
y - (-6) = -1/5(x - (4))
which is
y+6=-1/5*x +4/5 (negative a negative makes the 6 positive and you multiply everything in the () by -1/5
You then need to get y by itself by subtracting both sides by 6
4/5 - 6/1 You need to make the bottom of the fractions the same so you make it a 5. Which means you need to multiply the top and bottom of 6/1 by 5
4/5 - 30/5 = -26/5
y=-1/5*x - 26/5
