Two polynomials P and D are given. Use either synthetic or long division to divide P(x) by D(x), and express P in the form P(x) = D(x)· Q(x) +R(x).

P ( x ) = 20 x 3 + 8 x + 2 = ( 4 x + 2 ) ( 5 x 2 5 / 2 x + 13 / 4 ) 9 / 2
D(x) = 4x + 2
so, Q ( x ) = ( 5 x 2 5 x / 2 + 13 / 4 )
and, R(x) = -9/2

P ( x ) = 20 x 3 + 8 x + 2
= 20 x 3 + 10 x 2 10 x 2 5 x + 13 x + 13 / 2 13 / 2 + 2
= 5 x 2 ( 4 x + 2 ) 5 x / 2 ( 4 x + 2 ) + 13 / 4 ( 4 x + 2 ) 9 / 2
= ( 4 x + 2 ) ( 5 x 2 5 x / 2 + 13 / 4 ) 9 / 2 .......................[taking (4x + 2) as common factor]
= D(x) * Q(x) +R(x)
here D(x) = (4x +2)
Q ( x ) = ( 5 x 2 5 x / 2 + 13 / 4 )
R(x) =-9/2
